Work inspiration event 2019

McLaren works with local community schools to equip young people for the future of work

On 14 November 2019, McLaren hosted the fifth annual Work Inspiration event for young people in the local community. Over the course of the day, students from seven local schools took part in a range of unique learning experiences that are designed to help develop skills for the future.

The programme, aimed at year 11 and 12 students, offers an insight into employer expectations and skills that will be useful for the future. From practicing presentation skills and problem-solving techniques by pitching their own marketing campaign, to experiencing communication and teamwork in action through participation in a Grand Prix pit stop challenge, each activity is designed to provide a learning experience with a McLaren twist, enabling the students to bridge the gap between work experience and the next step in their personal development.

The programme also provides students with practical insight and advice from McLaren’s recruitment team, including advice on building a CV, developing professional interpersonal skills and making the transition from education to working life.

Patrick Bermingham, Group HR Director at McLaren Group, said:

“I’m proud to see McLaren’s Work Inspiration programme in its fifth year. The programme was created to engage with local school students and help build self-confidence and self-esteem. By providing experiential learning that focuses on communication skills, teamwork and problem solving, skills we highly value at McLaren, students will be better able to demonstrate their strengths to potential employers in the future, wherever their ambitions lie.”
